Note well: The worldwide recession in the machine-tool industry in 2008-2010 severely jumbled rankings; check fiscal-year closing dates when comparing company performance. Rankings are based on worldwide sales of machine tools and related equipment (like numerical controllers or loaders) and/or services. Data on public companies come from readily available published reports; data on privately held companies come from company officials, sometimes through industry associations. Not all machine-tool-producing companies are included. Some private firms opt out. Others may not be currently included  for technical reasons. Machine-tool sales may be calculated as a percentage of total sales; this percentage may be published, reported privately by a company official, or estimated from other sources. In the case of updates and amplifications, please correspond directly to the editor of Metalworking Insiders' Report.
