Rankings are based on worldwide sales of machine tools and related equipment and/or services. Numerical controls sold by machine-tool builders are included, except that *FANUC and *Siemens are included in the table but not in the rankings because they produce relatively few machine tools. Data on public companies come from published reports; data on privately held companies come from company officials, sometimes through industry associations. Not all machine-tool-producing companies are included. Some private firms opt out. Others may not be currently included  for technical reasons. Machine-tool sales may be calculated as a percentage of total sales; this percentage may be published, reported privately by a company official, or estimated from other sources. In the case of updates and amplifications, please correspond directly to the editor of Metalworking Insiders' Report.
